Now That’s How You Wear A Jean Jacket

Denim jackets: practically an American institution unto themselves. And, definitely a must have to the fashion conscious among us. Gone are the days when it was cool to look as if you were donning your boyfriends (and most likely were) jacket. These days denim jackets are a cleaner slender look (see SJP and Miranda Kerr above). They’re fitted and cropped, embellished with feathers (a la Burberry), rhinestone and gems, or embroidered.

Me, I prefer the soft fitted with plenty of stretch versions —  AG Jeans, Robyn silhouette, being a favorite. Goes with everything, and is oh so soft! What’s your favorite?

Dress up chic leather jeans and sweatshirt with the perfect pair of pumps, via the style master herself – Emmanuelle Alt. Adding a pop of color to basic black will brighten your winter wardrobe!!

Follow Miranda Kerr’s lead and try wearing semi sheer hose with a denim mini for a modern look, and a great way to keep your legs warm in these colder months.

Try pairing pastels with a cheetah print as a fresh way to update a trend (animal print) that will always be in fashion. Alexa Chung’s metallic gold flats are the perfect way to add a punch to the look.

Navy and yellow are an unexpected color combo that looks like a million bucks. A cropped top in a classic, elegant silhouette is the perfect complement to a high-waisted pencil skirt.

Wearing a vibrant colored suit makes a splash but be sure to keep the silhouette clean and minimal, as well as your accessories. I love how Solange Knowles keeps it ultra minimal with no shirt – pure color keeps the look long and lean.

Solange may not be as famous as her sister Beyounce, but there aren’t many people with her ultra chic style. Everybody’s talking about her Humberto Leon for Kenzo wedding dress which was designed personally for her. It’s good to have designer friends!!

Neck to knee leather doesn’t have to be gothic or ultra-edgy. Cameron Diaz, proves the point in her dress by The Row, seen here at the London premiere of The Other Woman. Keep it uber simple and chic by pairing minimal jewelry, simple hair and nude pumps like Cameron’s Manolo Blahniks.

Jamie Chung, at a screening of Only Lovers Left Alive in NYC, sports the perfect transitional look. Lend a casual cool vibe to your ensemble by pairing leather skinnies  with a floral sleeved varsity jacket, and navy pumps.

At the Montblanc Celebrates 90 Years of Meistruck event in NYC, Chanel Iman sports the cut-out trend splendidly. To stay ladylike stylish keep accessories to a minimum and shoes in the same color family. A-line skirts are a must when baring a lot of skin.

Seen here at the Marianne Williamson event in LA, Kim Kardashian proves wearing all black doesn’t have to be boring. Try a skin baring bustier paired with draped satin pants, try adding a tailored jacket to keep the look clean. Bring in a pop of color via minimal accessories – sleek necklace, small clutch with matching strappy sandals.

Emma Stone tries on the tailored masculine look in Balenciaga while hosting an Earth Hour event in Singapore. Keep the hues neutral and the lines clean, top it off with a sexy pair of heeled sandals to preserve a feminine vibe.

Sporty, sexy, casual and downright chic, Miranda Kerr, took her fresh style to the Reebok Skyscape party in Tokyo. To create your own sporty style, try bright flirty lips and soft luscious wavy hair for a dose of femininity. And remember to keep jewelry subtle and to a minimum.

Also at the Marianne Williamson event in LA, Katy Perry dons two hot trends – floral and cutout – in one smashing dress. Always keep your skirt length on the longer side when baring your midriff to keep it classy. And, you don’t have to be Katy to add a pop of neon color to your hair to let loose your fun side.

Seen here at the Don Juan Toronto premiere, the newly engaged star, Scarlett Johanssen, keeps her mini Saint Laurent dress in the chic and classic realm by pairing it with a simple strand of pearls and a sleek updo. The pointy toe platform pumps add just the right amount of edge.

Angelina Jolie preserves a modern freshness to her all black ensemble by keeping it classic and simple in smoking flats, Ray Ban sunglasses, a Saint Laurent skinny belt and a Tibi camisole. The flashes of skin give the look lightness and the car coat silhouette keeps it modern.

Sienna Miller, seen here at London’s fashion week, adds pizzazz to a Burberry midi skirt – love the kick pleat – by adding Burberry’s cropped fur teal jacket and their metallic low-ankle strap heels. The voluminous blow-out adds just a hint of sex appeal.

The Perfect Jean

It has never been easy for me to get a superb fitting pair of jeans without the aid of Dr.Blue Jeans (an amazing denim tailor). Trying on a pair by Frame Denim was a different experience, they fit me like a dream since I first stepped into them.

The newest It jean is somewhat of an international one, designed by 2 London based Swedes, Erik Torstensson and Jens Grede, they are U.S. made right here in Los Angeles. The 2 are no strangers to the fashion business, Torstensson was the youngest student ever at the prestigious Swedish Berghs School of Communication, while Grede built a devoted following at Stockholm New, an indie fashion magazine. After meeting, the duo founded the company Saturday London in 2003 and built it into a powerhouse fashion advertising firm (which they still head).

Created for the woman who wears jeans to “frame her look and complement her figure”, the collection is known for its innovative washes and cutting-edge fabrics. It’s no wonder they have made die-hard fans out of celebrities and models such as Miranda Kerr, Amanda Seyfried and Sienna Miller.

When the boys were asked what makes their jeans so unique and special, they replied, “You know the perfect pair of jeans when you put them on a month after you bought them and they still hold their shape like the day you tried them on at the store.”

I have to say, I have found the perfect pair of jeans in Frame Denim. But don’t take my word for it, try a pair and judge for yourself. You’ll be glad you did!!

Try pairing the white Frame jeans with a striped silk blouse and Mason Martin Margiela ankle boots for the perfect summer date night look. Add the leather motorcycle jacket for an added dose of edge and when transitioning into fall.

Gwyneth Paltrow bundles up in NYC last week in Rag & Bone’s jacket and jeans, Yves Saint Laurent’s purse and Laurence Dacade ankle boots. Her vibrant red coat pairs perfectly with her grey boots and purse, while giving the neutral toned ensemble a burst of color . The blue-red hue look fabulous on blondes!

Strolling in LA last week, Miranda Kerr, takes casual up a notch with a bag and shoes by Celine, a classic Stella McCartney blazer, Mulberry scarf, Miu Miu sunglasses and skinny ankle cropped jeans by Frame. The reason this look works so well: the mixture of prints with classic silhouettes such as the blazer, ankle cropped jeans and tote handbag; along with urban chic, tres cool flats; and a small dose of edge with cat-eyed sunglasses.

Olivia Wilde, seen in Los Angeles at the Django Unchained screening, dons black pants and vest by ALC. Olivia keeps her look minimal with pulled back hair and nominal jewelry (long chain necklace). She makes it sexy with smokey cat eyes, pointy toe pumps and wearing her vest bare.

Kerry Washington steps out in a Peter Pilotto dress featuring a halter neckline, ruffled skirt and contrasting patterns at a Django Unchained photo call in Rome. Kerry, one of the stars of the movie, looked fresh, modern and stunning. She paired her dress with a pair of Nicholas Kirkwood print pumps that picked up two colors from her dress (the reason the shoes worked so well). Another reason this ensemble works so well is Kerry’s restraint in the accessory department when wearing a design this detailed.

Kathrine McPhee, at a NBC’S TCA event in Pasadena, California, wears a sheer mullet dress/lace-up high-tops combo that is totally confusing. This is the perfect example of mixing oranges with your apples  – each are fine on their own, but when worn together…..What was she thinking??? A pair of black wedge ankle boots or green high heels would take this look from sad to fab! The lace-up high-tops are better suited to a pair of skinny jeans.

Get The look For Less – Miranda Kerr’s Sartorial Shine

Playing I spy, fashion icon and super model, Miranda Kerr, eyes the paparazzi that have not let up  following (stalking?) and capturing her fashion statements in 2012. And with the famed Victoria Secret’s sartorial sense they’re not about to in 2013.

Caught here in Silver Lake last week, her fashion sensibilities shined strong in Prada leopard print smoking slippers; Rag & Bone Fedora floppy brim hat; Frame Denim light rinse skinny jeans and Boy. by Band of Outsiders yellow cashmere/wool blend crew neck with leather elbow patches. Every piece on its own is marvelous, but together they are to-die-for!!

Get The Look For Less – Miranda Kerr

Australian model, Miranda Kerr, seen here in New York, dons fellow Aussie’s Camilla and Marc’s Potion dress and Maison Martin Margiela’s two-tone denim jacket.

Kerr started the journey to becoming a household name in 2007 when she replaced Gisele Bundchen as a Victoria Secret’s model. Balenciaga is credited for launching her high fashion modeling career when casting director Ashley Brokaw and designer Nicolas Ghesquière chose her to walk exclusively for the brand’s spring runway show, until then she was better known for her Victoria’s Secret status rather than her high fashion work.

This super model, who Forbes placed tenth in the list of the world’s top-earning models, is not only famous for that hot bod, she has become a fashion icon of sorts. Check out my finds to get her look for less!!

Summer Styling Tips

Allesandro Ambrosio looks summer ready in her Tolani print strapless dress. The mixture of prints is a great way to add a touch of pizzaz to a summer dress, but if you find this trend tricky to pull off you are in luck –  this  Tolani dress does it for you. The hi-lo hem updates a strapless silhouette with a modern and fresh feel.

Olivia Palermo, at Christian Dior’s Haute Couture show in Paris last week (in all Dior), proves that a leather top can be summer friendly. The key, keep the top sleeveless and pairing it with a pair of shorts helps to ensure your look reads summer not fall.

Jennifer Lawrence (in Dior), also at the Christian Dior Haute Couture show in Paris, does justice to the lady-like trend in the print du jour – florals. Choose a dress with a fuller skirt and a few inches above the knee to keep the look young and fresh. Keeping the floral print in one color will maintain that feminine feel.

Miranda Kerr takes basics and gives them a healthy dose of pizzaz. Her A.L.C cropped trousers get a face-lift with tuxedo stripes, giving her sleeveless Equipment shirt ensemble some serious sex appeal. Manolo Blahnik pointy toe pumps and Stella McCartney sunglasses take this sexy look and adds a shot chicness.

Michelle Williams at Comic-Con 2012, adds a pop of color to her black and white floral print Giulietta Resort dress with raspberry Giuseppe Zanotti platform heels. The trapeze silhouette needs a healthy flash of legs to keep it from becoming too matronly. Make sure the shoes are on the chunkier side to keep the dress fun and light.
