Gifts Every Girl Will Adore

gifts-for-the-jewelry-obsessed

I don’t know a girl who doesn’t love jewelry as a gift. Not a one. Whether you are buying gifts for your mom, sister, BFF, or need to send this to your significant other for hints, this curated jewelry gift list has something for every personality type on your list.

For the rock ‘n roller in our lives there is Cynthia Desser’s Stingray tri-colored cuff, or Alexander McQueen’s Swarovski crystal and pearl Queen skull ring. Or, maybe you’re shopping for someone more classically refined? In that case, there is the vintage 1940’s bracelet with Cartier and Tiffany & Co. charms, or Pamela Love’s Gravitation stud earrings from her fine jewelry collection. For the person who lies somewhere in the middle, I suggest either Pamela Froman’s turquoise 18 K Crush earrings, or Finn’s Figa fist necklace made from coral with a dangling diamond. They are all beautiful and unique in their own right. Just like the recipients!

Stay tuned for more gift lists coming up this week!

Let us continue America’s birthday celebration! Many of us have a birthday weekend, why not the U.S. Help support our United States, and buy American made products today (and always). These companies, not only excel in creativity, quality, ingenuity and design, they don’t make their product overseas, they utilize one of our greatest assets –  its citizens!

Reformation’s stylish clothes, a favorite among celebrities (Kendall Jenner, Karlie Kloss, and Rosie Huntington-Whiteley), and Cynthia Desser’s unique and fabulous accessories are made right here in Los Angeles, with Reformation’s in a sustainable factory, no less. Amour Vert also utilizes a zero-waste design philosophy, non-toxic dyes, and sustainable fibers.

A new-found designer for me, Whit, founder Whitney Pozgay, creates her chic designs, from idea to fruition in NYC. Nashville’s denim royalty, Matt and Carrie Eddmunson, creators and designers of Imogne + Willie, recently expanded their repertoire to include jewelry and home goods that are turning out to be every bit as covetable as their jeans!

Not only does American made goods mean better working conditions for employees, but better quality items for you. It is a win win for all!

Our Sisters In Arms

Where would we be without are ‘sisters in arms’ – are BFF’s, mom, aunts and real life sisters? I know I’d be a whole lot crazier! Show them how much they mean to you this holiday with one of my ultra chic and stylish gift ideas.

Many of these gifts are favorites that I’ve given and received this year. My fav of all fav candles is Diptyque Figuier candle. The aroma is divine, and for the holidays it’s packaged in festive green colored glass. You CANNOT go wrong with this gift! Trust me!

Other treasured items of mine are Lanvin’s iphone 5 case – seriously, no serious fashionista should be without one, and  By Malene Birger’s blondy textured knitted sweater is uber cozy and chic. I wear mine with everything from leggings to pencilskirts to skinny jeans. Cynthia Desser’s citrine Rock Opera earrings are another versatile gift for the accessory junkie in your life. Dressed up or down these earrings are a winner!

For the girl who is the first to buy every new beauty item that hits the stores, try gifting M.A.C’s Stroke of Midnight essential brush kit for $50.00 – a great deal since together these brushes retail for over $140.00. A.O.C, one of the best restaurants in Los Angeles, just released a new cookbook that makes an ideal gift for the foodie friend in your life. They will eat this up!! Make sure to let them know you’re available for sampling!

The one item I don’t have (but will soon be rectifying), is the uber chic and cool Alexander Wang stingray embossed note-book. The perfect way to jot down cherished thoughts and musings in style!

Must See – Los Angeles

Alexander Calder Lacodn 1947

Calder and Abstraction: From Avant-Garde to Iconic

Alexander Calder’s first museum exhibition in Los Angeles, Calder and Abstraction: From Avant-Garde to Iconic, started November 24, 2013 and runs through July 27, 2014. I went to the last private showing with my girlfriend, jewelry designer, Cynthia Desser, on Saturday evening. After walking through the exhibition, exclaiming many oohs and aahs, we decided the only thing we would change was its size. It needed to be much bigger.

From Avant-Garde to Iconic showcases nearly fifty abstract sculptures, including mobiles, stabiles, and maquettes for larger outdoor works, that span more than four decades of the artist’s career. It was beautifully organized by LACMA’s senior curator of modern art, Stephanie Barron, and brilliantly designed by Frank Gehry “I always remember the Calder show at the Guggenheim in New York,” Gehry says, “and how the work responded to the curves of the museum. It was spectacular. LACMA didn’t have such a space for the show, so we designed one. I hope to at least give the art its individual space and let the architecture help reveal the dynamism of each piece.” Susan also had a hand in the exquisite lighting of the exhibition, which included deciding which pieces got cast with and with out shadows.

Alexander Calder La Demoiselle, 1939.
Alexander Calder, deemed one of the most important artists of the twentieth century, revolutionized modern sculpture with some of his most iconic works, coined mobiles by Marcel Duchamp kinetic sculptures in which flat pieces of painted metal connected by wire move delicately in the air (some balancing miraculously on one point) propelled by motors or air currents. His later stabiles are impressive structures, whose arching forms and massive steel planes continue his fascination with dynamism and daring innovation.

Just saw this sweater by Aiko at Intermix (exclusively) and fell head over heels in love. The color trio of camel, white and black so refreshing for fall, and the strip of black leather in the back – so cool!

Pair it with a black pencil skirt,  All Saints’ Metal pencil skirt is a favorite of mine, and Steve By Steve Madden’s new Maliik bootie for a chic daytime to evening look. Or, try Tacotti’s double zip ankle boot for a funkier urban feel.  My ultra talented friend, Cynthia Desser’s citrine point Rock Opera earrings compliment either look perfectly!

This Week’s Wish List

I’ve a had a yen for accessories this week — expensive and some not so much, but all equally covetable. I fell in love with the Un Bout high heels by Christian Louboutin which come in a delicious array of colors (red was another favorite). Since Louboutin’s can be a stretch for many budgets, I included a fabulous pair of Aldo anklestraps that are every bit just as awesome.

Just the other day my jewelry designer friend, Cynthia Desser (check out her fabulous wares that I perpetually want), turned me on to Mawi jewelry. I’m mad for their clean lines and edginess, and particularly fell in love with the piece above. Thanks Cyn!

If you’re in need of some new tunes to brighten your mood make sure to check out Jason Mraz’s new album, Love Is A Four Letter Word. It contains his awesome new song I Won’t Give Up which is available to preorder before it hits stores this Tuesday.

Enjoy! And if you have any covetables of your own please share!!

From My Closet To Yours – Style Tips By Kristin

The Denim Shirt

I’ve been obsessed with my denim shirt these past few days so it’s been working over time and doing double duty. Mine is from American Apparel, but alas it’s not in stock so I gathered up these other amazing options from J Crew, Lucky Brand, Wrangler and Joe’s Jeans (available at Chelsea’s store in Los Angeles).

We’ve all worn our denim shirts casually either with shorts, jeans or cordaroy pants but there is a new way to update your denim shirt. If you want to lend a little edge to your denim shirt and bring it into the realm of chicness, pair it with a pencil skirt – short or below the knee, they both look smashing. For a unique twist wear one side pulled out (ala Taylor Tomasi-Hill below) – my new fav way to wear it, or tuck it in and pair it with a great belt. For more edge I wore mine with my Stuart Weisman over the knee leather boots and my Cynthia Desser droozy necklace and cuff.

Happy Shopping!!
