Homepolish — Affordable Interior Design

I’ve been redecorating my place and my creative juices began dwindling when it came to my kitchen/office space. I was in need of a little inspiration when I stumbled upon HomePolish: the genius start-up founded by Noa Santos and Will Nathan. The thought process is to offer home and office decorating services at strikingly reasonable prices —  designer’s services at an hourly rate of $100 for junior designers, or $130 for senior designers (after a $50 home consultation fee) — making it affordable to renters or anyone without a mega budget.

The company has more than 140 interior designers at its disposal, which are matched up to clients based on personality and taste. Homepolish currently works in major cities such as New York, D.C., Chicago, Los Angeles, Boston, San Fran and Philadelphia, with plans to expand in the near future.

In a relatively short period of time (the company was started in 2012), Homepolish has landed gigs with creative and impressive clients – designing spaces for Fashiontoast blogger Rumi Neely, Man Repeller’s Leandra Medine, and W Magazine’s Christina Caldwell, as well as 100 tech businesses including Venmo, Gilt and Codeacademy.

Will and Noa didn’t stop there, they also started a program called Swatch, designed to bring discounts to Homepolish clients with over 100 online vendors including retailers like Restoration Hardware, West Elm and Apt2B. Their aim is to make the process simple and to nix the sale’s pitch portion (hence the hourly rate), “It’s supposed to be a no-brainer, so that when you want interior design, you won’t have to replace your crumbling Ikea with more crumbling Ikea.

What To Wear To A Spring Wedding

Seems like everyone I know is either having a baby, or is getting married. ‘Always a bridesmaid, never the bride’, that’s me; actually that’s not even me, I’m just a guest. All joking aside, I’m super psyched to be attending Chelsea’s (Guest Editor of COS) wedding  in a few weeks.

It is an evening wedding so options are boundless. You can opt for the foolproof LBD, whether with a flirty tulip skirt and bustier top —  like Denis Gagnons, or Zara’s sexy open back dress with metal collar. Speaking of flirty, Red Valentino’s  pale pink drop waist dress with its classic silhouette and whimsy front black bow is perfect for a day or night wedding.

If you looking for an ensemble with a little more edge, yet tres chic, I’ve got just the thing – O’2nd Swan pleat jumpsuit. The pants are fitted and cropped and the back of the bodice embodies an open back with oversize pleats.

I think I’ll be leaning towards edge (O’2nd) for Chelsea’s wedding. I’ll dress it up with barely there strappy heels, a Kelly Wearstler cocktail ring and a soft and sexy up-do.

Wish List

I am wholeheartedly enveloped in summer these days; the weather, the clothes, the long hours of sunshine. But now that the stores are showing clothes for the next season, I can’t help fantasizing about the items I will add to my collection. So, this week’s wish list is all about fall 2012.

First on that list is Marni’s tomato red laser-cut leather tote followed by Narcisco Rodriquez’s combo high heel boot – love that they hit at the calf, so sexy. Or maybe it would be Rag & Bone’s Motorcycle jacket, or the ultra hip gathered waist pant by Girl. By Band of Outsiders. Scratch that, I think it would have to be Carven’s twisted stretch-jersey dress, or… well, you get my drift.

Toasty, Cozy, Sumptuous Sweaters

It’s that time of year when Autumn winds are blowing and throwing logs on the fireplace can be a nightly occurrence, plans for Thanksgiving day dinner are under way and you’ve pulled out all the cozy, toasty sweaters you packed away for summer.

If “4 ply cashmere” is music to your ears and a sumptuous, soft cableknit pullover is your idea of a little slice of heaven, then you’re a bona-fide sweater lover like us. You’re in luck this season because we have found a sweater style to suit everyone. Sweaters have taken a shine to lurex and metallic finishes making them an easy option for day or night, ponchos (or has grandma would say Ruanas) are back in style and chunky knitted vests like the one designed by Improvd can dress and warm up your basic jeans and tee.

One of our favorites of the gems that we found was Enza Costa’s crew neck sweater with the attached fingerless gloves. And we are lovin the color block style – Barneys is carrying a sublime one by Carven – that takes us back to the ski sweaters of the sixties.

Whatever’s your cup of tea, cozy up to any of these sweaters and the brisk winds of Autumn days will always be at your back (or at least feel like it).
