I love the excitement and fervor new beginnings bring. They remind us that passion and  joy still rage within us. While Natacha Ramsay-Levi isn’t a newcomer to fashion, having  worked at Balenciaga and Louis Vuitton for Nicolas Ghesquière, her Chloe Spring 2018 collection is her first as creative director for a house. The results were smashing!

Ramsay-Levi politely nodded to her predecessors while infusing the collection with an “urban cool girl” chic all her own. Painted silks for Karl Lagerfeld, both Stella McCartney and Phoebe Philo were big horse fans, and she lifted a sense of weightlessness from Clare Waight Keller with the wispy micro-floral print and cream dresses.

Chloe is a new girl! She is no longer just a bohemian. She revels in tailoring (her vests, layered and solo, are divine), linear shirt-and-pants combos, jeans cropped and cuffed below the knee, snake-skin prints in clothing and accessories and details, such as, rings piercing the bodice of linen tops and dresses.

Speaking of accessories, look for Ramsey-Levi’s cannage leather boots, python booties and double strapped and double-decker handbags to make a strong impression in editorials,  and show up on street style savvy bloggers soon!

Kristin Ashford Bags & My Wish List

Kristin Ashford Bags

I may have been M.I.A from Curators of Style for awhile, but that doesn’t mean I haven’t been a busy little bee. While my COS alerts were missing from your email, my energy has been redirected into getting my Kickstarter campaign finished for my new line of small leather accessories — Kristin Ashford Bags.

It has been a lot of work, a lot of learning and a hell of a lot of fun. And, like most great efforts, I couldn’t have done it with out the help of my very talented friends. They helped me write the script, direct the video, lent their homes for shoot locations, and provided me with generous amounts of overall support.

I am happy to announce my kickstarter campaign went live today! Please check it out and if you like what you see, help spread the word. A girl needs all the support she can get!!

Check it out here.

While my number one wish is for my Kickstarter campaign to be a roaring success! I’ve also been dreaming about fall, and all the goodies I need to add to my closet. I am simply obsessed with Balenciaga’s stretch jersey thigh high boots. The vibrant colors worn with muted floral dresses (see Isabel Marant below) and richly colored separates maybe an unexpected combination, but one that oddly looks smashing. They are just the right amount of kick-in-the-pants a fall wardrobe needs. I wouldn’t be surprised to see this trend stick around for a while!

Another item I CAN NOT get out of my head, is Anna October’s  ruffled corset blouse; so romantic and sexy. And, plays off of the huge interest in statement sleeves going on. For those cool weather days coming upon us quickly, 3.1 Phillip Lim has taken the puffer coat, cropped it off at the waist and made the sleeves detachable for your Apres ski days.

Another must have for running about in comfort, and lounging around in style are NSF’s cotton sweat pants and side lace-up sweat shirt! Cozy and chic!

I know, I know. I’ve been gone way too long. My other project’s got the best of me, but rest assured I have missed you. It’s hard to believe that Mother’s Day is this Sunday! My mom requested books this year, and since I believe in supporting my local book store off to Diesel at the Brentwood Country Mart it was. If you ever find your self on the west side of a LA, treat yourself, and stop in for a visit!

For those of you with non reader moms, I’ve curated a list of of other gifts she’ll be sure to love. I’m particularly found of Farmhouse Pottery’s glazed ceramic pitcher (in 3 sizes), and Three J NYC’s super soft and cozy cotton poplin PJ short set. For those moms with a sweet tooth there is nothing more satisfying than Freds, from BNY, white and dark chocolate swirl popcorn. My mouth is watering just thinking about it.

The crazy cool gift Love (created by world-renowned product designer, Yves Behar) is on Indiegogo now and has already been 1720% funded. Love is the first high-end, smartphone controlled record player/stylist that you can use with or without its app. It’s worthy of a look see even if you’re not in the market!

Happy Mother’s Day to all you moms!

First off, I’d like to apologize for my long absence. I haven’t forgotten about you, and actually, you’ve been on my mind a lot. I’ve been fully engrossed in the KickStarter campaign for my small leather accessories line, and haven’t had a chance to come up for air. More details to come soon.

Boy, am I ready to slide right into spring and  stay there. No more wavering back and forth from warm to cold, or sunny days that transform back into cloudy ones in a blink of the eye. I want the smell of jasmine to linger for days, the sun to be a constant in my life, and the weather warm and balmy. Just the kind of days ideal for wearing this Spring’s “it” shoe – the slide!

I’ve curated a selection of the best ten slides available now. My personal favorites are Jenni Kayne’s buckle fringe mules. I plan on living in them this spring! I’ve also got my eye on x Revolve’s Sari slides in corn flower blue velvet, and Gucci’s neon pink suede mid-heel slides — both ideal for showing off the spring’s trendiest hues in nail polish!

Which are your favs? Share in the comment section.

Now That Is What I Call Unforgettable TV

Wowza! I, along with millions of others, could not believe how last night’s Oscar’s ended. Talk about awkward and embarrassing. At least it garnered some unforgettable television. It is astonishing the ripple effect one mistake (albeit a colossally huge one) has on an evening.

My heart went out to so many. Mostly, Moonlight producers, Barry Jenkins, Tarell Alvin McCraney and its cast for its moment of glory being tainted. Hopefully, it will be remembered more for the brave, powerful and artful masterpiece that it was, and not the unfolding of its journey to the stage to accept its Best Oscar award. Secondly, to La La Land; imagine believing you won the golden ticket, and having it be snatched from your hands. Producer Jordan Horowitz handled it like a true mensch.

I felt horrible for Warren Beatty and Faye Dunaway. So many of last night’s and today’s head lines read as if it were their fault. Let’s remember they were given the wrong card to read. And, to Jimmy Kimmel, he did a fantastic job of hosting the show with his subtle humor, his quick wit and all around entertaining personality. I hope his almost flawless hosting gig will be remembered not only for the last 10 minutes.

Lastly, I do feel bad for whom ever at Pricewater Cooper mixed up those envelopes. I’m sure, not only do they feel dreadful, but that they received an earful last night! Do you think they still have a job today?

Amid all the excitement from last night, I almost forgot to mention my top ten dresses from the evening. There were quite a few gorgeous gowns (2 of my what I want to see selections were worn), but my favorites were worn by Brie Lawson and Kristen Dunst — BBEG (basic black evening gown).

Ladies That Deserve The Very Best

The talented ladies that have been honored with an Oscar nomination in leading and supporting roles this year have put a lot of hard work, time and dedication into their performances. Each and every one of these actresses is worthy of the accolades that are being bestowed upon them. And, when they walk down the red carpet they deserve to be wearing the best of the best, and that is Couture  —  gowns that are rich in embellishment, craftsmanship and heavenly fabrics. Gowns that are no stranger themselves to hard work —   on average, a couture dress consist of hundreds to thousands of hours of painstaking effort.

Most of this year’s Oscar nominees are quite experienced with more than a few noms under their belts (Meryl Streep, Viola Davis, Michelle Wiliams, Octavia Spencer and  Nicole Kidman). Yet, there are a few that are relative newbies having only been nominated once or twice (Natalie Portman, Isabelle Huppert and Emma Stone), and two actresses experiencing their very first nods (of many yet to come, I’m sure) – Naomie Harris and Ruth Negga. I’m rooting for Ruth Negga (can someone please explain how “Loving” was not nominated for Best Picture??), and the enviable Viola Davis. Both delivered awesome portrayals of woman with not a lot in common except for their courage, strength and resilience in difficult, trying times.

I’ve hand curated a selection of couture gowns that I’d like to see each of them grace as they glide down the red carpet. Let me know what you think of my picks!
