Stirring The Pot

This year it’s about mixing things up. Changing the way you approach your free time. I’ve curated a list of ways to get the ball rolling and simplify the process for you. Try turning off the TV and listen to a podcast; camping in a decked out, luxurious Airstream trailor in lieu of a hotel; or listen to an autobiography audio book to put your self in someone else’s shoes rather than your normal radio stations. Who knows, this could be life changing!

Because sometimes the past deserves a second chance.

“He has explored how ideas spread in the Tipping Point, decision-making in Blink, the roots of success in Outliers, and the advantages of disadvantages in his latest book David and Goliath. In his latest project, Revisionist History, Gladwell examines the way the passage of time changes and enlightens our understanding of the world around us.”

Try tuning in to Revisionist History, a podcast from Malcolm Gladwell and Panoply Media. A 10 week series where Malcolm takes an event, a person, or idea, from the past, and reinterprets it.

Auto Camp

Inspired by the wanderlust of camping and the great American road trip, AutoCamp is a new type of outdoor lodging experience that’s unlike any other. The team behind Eastern Safaris: Balloons Over Bagan In Myanmar have now launched an exciting new product in the spectacular Atacama Desert of Northern Chile.  Balloons Over Atacama’s sunrise hot air balloon flights drift slowly over multi coloured and spectacular rock formations against a backdrop of distant snowcapped volcanoes. Theaster Gates Regen Projects

“Theaster Gates: But To Be A Poor Race,” Regen Projects, Los Angeles, CA, January 14 – February 25, 2017

“But To Be A Poor Race questions a particular kind of poverty, one that is not just about a lack of economic capital but one that is deprived of the basic elements from which one can make a living,” says Gates. For Gates, sculpture – as a derivative of the minor arts, craft, or the decorative and plastic arts – has been an important historical invention. Throughout Gates’ artistic career and especially during his time at the University of Cape Town in South Africa, the need for divine acts to have material and human vessels has undergirded his investigations. The exhibition begins to demonstrate Gates’ thoughtful handling of sometimes imagined African reliquary objects and other historic Black forms, referencing the power that can be honed from ‘poor’ materials. But To Be A Poor Race offers a salute to the possibility of power and beauty. ”

Gates is internationally renowned for his cross-disciplinary practice that spans sculpture, painting, sound, and performance. Featuring all new works, many of which will be created on site, this exhibition marks the artist’s continued investigation into the relationship between visual politics, shamanism, and object making.

Born To Run Bruce Springsteen

“Writing about yourself is a funny business…But in a project like this, the writer has made one promise, to show the reader his mind. In these pages, I’ve tried to do this.” —Bruce

Bruce Springsteen’s Born to Run is not just an explanation of his vast record catalogue, and recalling of his many sojourns while touring the world many times over. While it does delve into those aspects, it is more of a raw, honest and in-depth telling of one’s life from an extremely self-aware man who has thought deeply about what his life experiences have meant. Listening to the audio version in my car, narrated by Bruce himself, was akin to having him personally tell me his story as I tooled around the streets of LA. Highly recommended. Thanks Bruce. I already miss you.
