Leave it to Alexander Wang to spicen up NYFW with what he anointed his, “50 Shades of Grey meets Lords of Dogtown” collection. To me it was a merging of his California roots ( Wang hails from San Francisco), and his allegiance to present home: New York City. Surfers and skateboarders were presented via board shorts, knit dress that must have been morphed from rash guards, and lingerie feeling pieces cut in neon track suit material. New York appeared in the form of banker’s stripe, grey flannel and Glen plaid. Of course, when all mashed together – a one button grey blazer trimmed in lace worn with hip slung shorts; the bankers stripe miniest below the hip slung skirt paired with a cropped white poplin blouse; and Hanne Gaby Odiele’s sheared white mink bathrobe coat, bra top, and board shorts – is when the spice, sex and cool pours out.
For those who aren’t exhibitionists (or have washboard abs) Alexander Wang also debuted his collaboration with Adidas. Take a look here.
There was plenty of sweet to be seen at NYFW, especially in the form of dresses. But, not too sickly sweet, this is New York after all!
