Sarah Burton takes her collections seriously, even if it is a collection designed to fill the space between the major seasons, such is her extraordinary handiwork that every outing she presents parallel’s a mini couture presentation. This woman does not know the meaning of under performing — EVERYTHING this woman does is on an elevated and first-rate scale.
Sarah’s Resort 2017 collection for Alexander McQueen offered 36 designs of effusive beauty ranging from tiered cotton trapeze dresses done in broderie anglaise, knit dresses so technologically advanced they resemble lace, hand-painted florals on ruffled leather dresses and jackets, and long and sheer tulle dresses scattered with colored sequined flowers while the less dramatic and more romantic flowing versions were embroidered.
This season’s McQueen woman is all about balancing structure and femininity. Her floral abundant collection — mixtures of carnations, yellow roses, peonies, and poppies — was influenced by, as Burton explained, “British folk art and domestic interiors: Wallpaper, patterns you see on canal barges.”
I have a feeling the illimitable beauty of this collection can’t really be captured except by the naked eye — up close and in person, with enough time to take in the top-notch details and craftsmanship!
