My plans for NYE have taken a last minute different direction. I’ll still visit with, friends but tonight will be a low key evening of intention setting, a few games and a bit of adult coloring for the meditative effects.
The idea that coloring has healing benefits is nothing new. At the turn of the century Carl Jung had his patients color in mandalas, as a way of getting people to focus and to allow the subconscious to let go. This trend is now booming for its stress reducing, calming and meditative qualities.
Similar to meditation, coloring allows us to switch off our brains from other thoughts and focus on the moment. Dr. Joel Pearson, a brain scientist at the University of New South Wales in Australia, explains that concentrating on coloring an image also facilitates the replacement of negative thoughts and images with pleasant ones. By using advanced technology, Dr. Stan Rodski, a neuropsychologist with his own line of adult coloring books, was even able to see the physical effects it had on our bodies.
