Karl Lagerfeld does not do small; never has, never will. While most Pre-Fall collections are shown a la show room style, Lagerfeld journeyed to Rome and recreated Paris for his 13th Métiers d’Art collection. He describes the setting in the New York Times, “It’s more about the air than the reality,” he noted with a pause from a staircase overlooking Teatro No. 5, a dazzling monochrome 9,800-square-foot film set inspired by a Left Bank neighborhood in the 1960s and created by Chanel on the famous terra-cotta-hued Cinecitta movie studios built by Benito Mussolini. “Times today are not that romantic. We need to work on that.”
The collection of cool and sexy attire is one of the best he has created in a while. Yet, it is the chic outer wear I can’t stop thinking about. Leather and wool pea coats, patent trench and boxy color blocked coats, embellished capelets and printed dusters were heavenly. (Let’s not forget he has been the master at Fendi, designing furs and RTW, since 1965).
Lagerfeld also premiered “Once and Forever,” an 11-minute movie he directed that features Kristen Stewart and Geraldine Chaplin.
As I previewed the beginning Pre-Fall 2016 collections, many thoughts arose for me. Do any of you fashionphiles wonder have the same questions?
Will what previewed at Red Valentino for pre-fall, be a taste of what we’ll see on the Valentino runways later this month?
Are some designers actually creating clothes for their Pre-Fall 2016 collections (debuting in stores in May) that we can actually wear when they hit the stores?
Why do I so dislike when designers add men to the runway when previewing the women’s collection? Should I begin a ‘stay off our runways campaign’?
Not quite sure what to make of the lace tights from Chanel Pre-Fall 2016. I can see lace will be huge trend next year, but…… maybe they’ll grow on me?
Will Public School ever do a secondary line named Private School??
What is behind the new brand Cinq a Sept’s (Five in Sept) name?
Why are ankle boots always so big around my ankles and never the models?
If you know the answers to these, or other preplexing fashion queries, remember what you learned as a toddler and share!
