Patti Smith is my rock icon. She is also my literary hero. Not only is she an accomplished poet and songwriter, but I devoured her critically acclaimed memoir, ‘Just Kids’, in a matter of days. If you haven’t read it, do your self a favor and check it out (here).

With her new novel, ‘M Train’ on book shelves this month’s Harper’s Bazaar features a Q & A with Patti and Joan Juliet Buck. There, Smith dishes on finding happiness, grappling with loss and leaving her pop stardom behind to move to Detroit with the love of her life, Fred “Sonic’ Smith (of DM5 fame). In ‘ M Train” we are exposed to another side of Smith — the writer, mother, wife, daughter and a constantly searching woman.

Tonight I start M Train, and I can not wait!
