As soon as I saw this dress come down the runway at Tibi (above), I knew I had to have it. I always enjoy having something to look forward to. Of course, the downside to coveting this sublime dress is the challenge it presents to living my life in the moment. Ah, the perils of fashion.
Tibi’s Spring 2016 collection was all about ease and “mixing it up,” declared designer Amy Smilovic. Long and loose, in cotton and silks, were the mainstay silhouettes, and to stretch beyond her comfort zone she confronted “working with elements that are “almost tacky,” and making them more refined,” as she told Vogue.com. She reexamined the Bermuda short in a variety of colors and materials, including a remarkable iridescent silk taffeta. To push herself even further, she took sequins (not a favorite of hers) and worked them on to dresses, skirts, tops, and shorts, pairing them with silks and suedes for an end result that was anything but tacky.
As for the dress I can barely wait to have, it appears there will be a plethora to choose from come next year. Deep v-neck softly structured midi dresses were seen on Altuzarra, PrabalGurung, Victoria Beckham and Thakoon (clockwise), to name just a few!
There was a load of inspiration from day’s two and three of NYFW to inspire many looks.
