Two of my favorite things in life are best friends, and visiting San Francisco/Marin. That was what my past four days were all about. On the agenda was a Giants vs. Cubs game (my two favorite teams which made choosing who to root for difficult, but when in Rome….), much eating — Picco’s, Bungalow 44, Sam’s Cafe, Terrapin Crossroads (my fav for music and farm to table eats), motor boating in the bay and plenty of relaxing with a view to die for (see below)!
Another of my favorite things is photography, so the arrival of my friend’s Annie Leibovitz SUMO book could not have been better timed. This collector’s edition book (only 10,000 copies printed, all signed by Leibovitz) is available in 4 different dust jackets that collectors can choose from: Whoopi Goldberg; Keith Haring; David Byrne and Patti Smith. Widely considered one of America’s best portrait photographers, Leibovitz’s breathtaking book covers 40 years of the artist’s photography including a large number of previously unseen images from her archives. Over 500 personalities are featured in the 240 photos of celebrated personalities from the worlds of music, cinema, art, fashion, literature, politics, and sports, and in a size, scale and printing quality never before seen. At two and a half feet tall and 57 pounds (it is massive), it comes with its own tripod stand (designed by Marc Newson), making it less of a coffee table book and more of an installation.
Here is a sampling of the photos featured.
