While designing this collection Muccia Prada asked herself, “How can you be strong with pastels?” Turns out it can be done by using textural fabrics – ostrich, tweeds and hyper-smooth, spongy sci-fi fabric that could be mistaken for neoprene, but was actually a double-faced jersey; mixing in robust colors to offset the pastels, resulting in combos that only Muccia can put together; and adding quirky touches such as strips of colored fur, vibrant hued opera length leather gloves, and faille ribbons randomly planted as bows on evening wear.

This is a strong collection, no doubt, yet it is an accessible one. One could describe the clothes as wearable. Many of the silhouettes will evoke memories of the nineties when Prada was in it’s heyday. What ever problems the brand is having (sales are down) this collection will have Prada back on top once more.

We may have seen these familiar silhouettes in past Dolce & Gabbana collections, but that doesn’t take away from the gorgeous collection they presented for Fall 2015.  Continuing with their inspiration all things Italian, they zeroed in on the famiglia with mothers and their babies the focus. There were 11 mothers and their children on the runway. Even Dolce & Gabbana stalwart Bianca Balti catwalked with a huge bun in the oven.

“There were prints (and embroideries) based on drawings by Domenico’s nieces and nephews that looked exactly like naughty kids had taken some crayons to Mum’s best dress.” as reported. It called to mind Angelina Jolie’s wedding dress that featured her children’s drawing on her veil. Roses were the prominent motif of the collection, not only because it is the flower given to mothers on Mother’s Day, but because the rose scent of Stefano’s mother’s red lipstick is a favorite memory of his.

The collection may have focused on mom, but it held designs for everyone woman in a family – short tunics, curvaceous midi dresses, fit and flare dresses with stiff skirts, classic sheath dresses, and plenty of alluring black lace separates and dresses.

There was only one thing this beautiful and rich collection didn’t have. And, that was pants!
