Antonio Berardi is on the fast track to becoming as much of a house hold name as say, Calvin Klein was in his day. Aided by the love of celebrities, stylists and editors alike — he has become all the rage on the red carpet. For Pre-Fall 2015 he indulged in the men’s wear aesthetic but transformed the looks with luxury and a feminine twist.
Berardi is an expert tailor, and this year his divine tailored looks were worked in sculptural shapes, such as a jacket and pant in black wool crepe, the jacket slim through the waist with an exaggerated stand up collar, and the pants slim to the knee cascading into a wide leg bottom. Skirts were either flared or mini with a hi-low hem (my favorite). The luxurious coats were the stand outs in the collection from the nipped-at-the-waist blazers with extra wide lapels, to coats with bell sleeves, intricate pleating and asymmetrical hem lines. And those boots, I must have a pair!
Trends are not what drives Berardi’s creativity, as he explained, “I work toward designs that are really beautiful and hope that they have a longevity simply because the fabric’s beautiful or innovative. For me, the fabric is just as important as the rest (of the collection).” He prefers to develop his own fabrics such as a red fabric panel woven with lurex into a 3-D diamond pattern (used on the later red exits) which the designer envisioned to look like “molten glass”.
A refined, impeccably tailored collection that has me salivating for his Fall/Winter 2015 collection.
