I narrowly escaped parochial high school, instead we moved to California and the idea got lost in the move. I felt like I dodged a big bullet. I was thankful I wouldn’t be wearing the same clothes day in and day out – yea, no uniform! Yet I did love those penny loafers.
Loafers are again a strong trend for fall, but for 2013 they’ve had a facelift! The vamp is high, a la the smoking slipper, and the toe has become pointier. Gone is the space for your lucky penny (the exception are Elizabeth & James colorful patent red loafer) IN is a chic edginess.
I can’t even begin to decide which are my favorites. I love them all: the urban chic 3.1 metallic Phillip Lims; the preppier Jeffery Campbell tassel loafer; Stella McCartney’s rounder toe with a tortoise heel version (I do love that these are animal friendly faux leather); the jewel embellished Miu Miu patent pearl loafers – fantastic for dressing up an ensemble with flats – or J Crew’s leopard calf hair slip ons.
Hmm, maybe I need 3 or 4 pairs. Do you have a preference?
