Generally speaking, the fashion at Sunday’s Sag Awards, held in Santa Monica at the Civic Auditorium, was not as impressive as the vast depth of beautiful gowns worn at the Golden Globes earlier this year. Which is not to imply that there weren’t stunning gowns that graced the red carpet, just fewer.
The stand out gowns were donned by the usual suspects that rounds out most best dressed lists, yet the evening did hold a few astonishments. A surprising starlet in my 10 best dressed was The Office’s Jenna Fisher in a unique short-sleeved Jenny Packham dress – love the splashes of gold and sheer sleeves. A sure-fire fashion icon in-the-making is none other than the darling and extremely talented Kiernan Shipka (the sulky, precocious and soon to be impossible teenage daughter of Mad Men’s Don Draper) in Oscar de la Renta’s sheer pink tea length dress.
Christian Dior seems to have a new fashion ambassador in Jennifer Lawrence, she and Marion Cotillard, the fashion house’s spokesperson, both wore designs by Dior’s Raf Simmons to the last two awards shows. You really can’t ask for two more beautiful women to walk the red carpet in your gowns.
Navy and pale pastels were prominent colors while other major trends for the evening were strapless gowns (far too many worn to list), column dresses and metallic shine – Jennifer Gardner looking divine in Oscar de la Renta (quite a few of his gowns made appearances), and Naomi Watts in Marchessa. The stunning Naomi has been hitting it out-of-the ball park at every show this award season!
