What do Kate Moss, Chloë Sevigny, Iggy Pop and Sting have in common? Besides being icons in their respective fields they are all uber fans of french label Zadig & Voltaire. Known for their cult like status among those who epitomize the rock ‘n’ roll lifestyle (hence the celebrity following), they are not for the faint of heart.
Launched in 1997, Zadig & Voltaire, has grown steadily since Parisian designer, Thierry Gillier (whose grandfather founded Lacoste), first brought to life his edgy and rebellious designs. Gillier, who previously worked for Yves Saint Laurent, brought on Swedish model Cecilia Bonstrom as his assistant in 2003 and three years later promoted her to artistic director. Ever faithful to her mentor, Cecilia keeps the label’s signature rock ‘n’ roll vibe alive while infusing her designs with a laid back style. Combining classic cuts with luxurious fabrics she has kept this brand a favorite among the ultra chic, fashion-forward clientele.
New ways to keep the label fresh and modern are always on the forefront of Gillier’s mind. And not being one to shy away from collaboration he recently hired Italian jeweller, Gaia Repossi, to create a line of intricately designed mesh cuffs and rings. Model, Erin Wasson, has also created a capsule collection that adds her own sexy, grungy style to Zadig & Voltaire.
