“Like Crazy  tells the truth, simply: Love is Thrilling

Lisa Schwarzbaum  Entertainment Weekly

Want to remember what it was like to fall in love for the first time; the rush, the thrills, the eventual heartbreak, but also the simple beauty of the experience? If so, then Like Crazy, Drake Doremus depiction of first love, fits the bill perfectly.

Like Crazy, starring Anton Yelchin (Charlie Bartlett, Star Trek) and Felicity Jones, debuted at the 2011 Sundance Film Festival to universal critical acclaim. Selling the evening of its premiere to Paramount Vantage and Indian Paintbrush, it went on to win the Grand Jury prize for best picture and Special Jury Prize for best actress for, Felicity Jones (a star in the making).

Drak Dormeus made a movie that portrays a love story that feels realer than anything we have seen in hollywood for a long time. We had the pleasure of attending a Q & A with Drake after the movie and he is as articulate, funny and delightful as you might imagine after seeing the movie.

Like Crazy (semi-autobigraphical), explores the story of  Jacob, an aspiring furniture designer, and Anna, a British journalism student, who fall in love in college. They are separated after she violates the terms of her visa and must return to London. It beautifully and realistically addresses the challenges of being together and being apart while madly in love.

Ultimately, it is a tale of hopefulness and of heartbreak that accompany love.

In Los Angeles, Like Crazy is playing at the Landmark Theaters in the West Side Pavillion.

  1. The story may have its fair share of schmaltz and cheesiness, but the direction and performances from the cast make this a believable and painful story about young love. It’s also refreshing to see a film that doesn’t overstay its welcome. Nice review. Check out mine once you get the chance.
