Vanessa Bruno, daughter of a Danish 60′s supermodel and the founder of French fashion house Emmanuelle Khan, grew up with fashion in her blood, and at the young age of 24, started her own line. She has gained the support of stars like Nicole Kidman and Charlotte Gainsbourg with sophisticated, clever tailoring and beautifully draped dresses in luxurious wools and silks.
Vanessa’s opening look in her Fall 2011 collection – a peasant jacket, cotton skirt and head scarf – was indicative of the Russian theme laced throughout the collection, capturing the utilitarian but sweet spirit of Doctor Zhivago’s beloved Lara. With the hues of creams, taupes, greys there was very little stand out colors. When they did come, mostly in the shade of cognac – in a stand out “Bolshevik officer’s” coat with fur detail – and in touches of green and plum, they gave the collection it’s pop and were often paired with cream. The knit pullovers, cardigans, cashmere coats with fur and dresses with fur epithets gave the collection luscious texture and we are coveting the slouchy boots made from leather and cashmere.
It wasn’t long before the doyenne of French chic started a diffusion line – Vanessa Bruno Athe`- which shares the same aesthetics as her main line but at much more affordable prices. Athe`s cable knit sweaters and elegant day dresses in luxe fabrics speaks of her understated brand of cool every bit as much as her main line.
