Target Meet Neiman Marcus, Neiman Marcus Meet Target

They may make an odd couple, but discounter Target and luxury merchant Neiman Marcus are teaming up on a limited collection spanning from fashion to sporting goods for the upcoming holiday season.

More than 50 products from 24 CFDA finalists, including  Carolina Herrera, Derek Lam, Diane von Furstenberg, Jason Wu, Marc Jacobs, Oscar de la Renta and Tory Burch will be available at both stores and on their websites starting Dec. 1 and runs until they sell out. Prices span from $7.99 to $499.99, but the majority of items will sell for less than $60.

The 2 companies are obviously aware of their differences, with Kathee Tesija, Target’s executive vice president of merchandising saying, “They’re high-end, and we’re mass appeal”. Target sells $25 dresses and generates almost half its revenue from staples like food and detergent, while Neiman Marcus has cultivated a reputation for expensive fashion, selling $1,000 shoes and $3,000 handbags. But, they have chosen to celebrate their commonality – they both love design!!

With the limited partnership both companies hope to grab a new segment of customers who are increasingly shopping around, checking out both higher and lower-price stores. Target, whose sales growth has been uneven since the recession, is seeking new ways to boost its fashion image. And Neiman Marcus, whose affluent customers are back to splurging, needs to step outside its comfort zone to stay competitive. By giving customers a reason to come visit their store for a first time, Neiman Marcus hopes they will discover it also sells more affordable items for under $100.

This time around in order to avoid more disappointed customers, like the ones they had when Missoni for Target sold out in ” the blink of an eye”, shoppers will be allowed to buy only a limited number of each item, though Target spokesman Joshua Thomas said the number hasn’t been set. Spread the wealth, sounds like a good idea!

Get The Look For Less – Nautical Trend

January is that time of year when we dream of escaping the winter chill for sunshine, the seaside, sailboats and, frankly, anything summer.  Fortunately for us, this year’s Resort and Spring collections feature the classic nautical trend in spades. While this trend has become a classic, it has a saucy, bold flair that lends its pizazz – i.e stripes in bold red, navy and gold colors and anchor motifs.

Nautical trends are always a safe investment being that the looks are crisp, clean, classy and elegant. This trend has been around for a while and it’s not planning on making an exit any time soon. Keep the look chic and classic (think Jackie O and Audrey Hepburn) with a few bold accents added in and it’s hard to go wrong!

Check out these fun and flirty nautical pieces that are timeless and won’t break the bank:

Spring/Summer Ready To Wear 2012

Mercedes Benz Fashion Week in New York continues and each day more and more designers present their collections. Designer Nanette Lepore presented her most vibrant collection to date commenting, “We approach color from a new place each season. Everyone in this industry feeds off each other, and the fabric retailers have lately been pushing amazing, sturdy fabrics in these bright colors.” Never one to skip out on a big trend, Lepore put on a blinding show with head-to-toe electric colors. For those editors who thought the whole neon trend was played out already, they will surely learn that it’s just begun.

Tory Burch was a new-comer to the runway world presenting her first show in seven-plus years of being in the business! Burch chose as her starting point twenties-era Deauville, and many of the outfits had a Chanel-like feel to their design. Overall, this was a great first runway collection, and many editors have described her as being at her best. The collection had a playful twist on her classic looks—complete with tons of color, print, beading, and raffia fringe. The Tory Burch Fashion House surely found a way to have fun and express themselves with a bold presentation.

Trend Report: Bright Colored Sandals-You Can Almost Taste them

Viewing one of my favorite websites, Net-a-Porter.com, I came across this photo and flashed to a child hood memory of myself looking at a bubble gum machine full of round balls in every spectacular color I could imagine. I never could decide what color to wish for before dropping in my dime.

Deciding between all the vibrant hued sandals this spring has that same feeling-How can I pick just one? With as many styles as there are-we’ve chosen some for the beach, a perfect pair to wear when pampering your feet at your favorite pedicure haunt, and some to wear out dining and dancing.

And, with these great prices(well, some of them), buying more than just one makes the choosing a bit easier!

From the director of Bruce Almighty, The Nutty Professor, and Ace Ventura:Pet Detective comes a surprisingly powerful and inspirational film.

“We started out asking; What’s wrong with our world? And more importantly; What can we do about it?

But we ended up finding what’s right with it.”   Tom Shadyac

Accessory Report: The Leather Clutch

A bold and classic leather clutch truly is the perfect accessory-it is a “fashion staple” that you can always count on to pull almost any outfit together.  A leather clutch can take you from work to play, especially if it comes with an optional wrist/shoulder strap to be used during the day.

The trend in leather clutches this Spring 2011 is bold color- such as deep reds, dark navys and tantalizing oranges. Classic black will always be the safest bet and will always be on trend.

Trend in Spring/Summer 2011 Shoes-Flat Sandals & Wedge Platforms

High Heels will always be a mainstream in any season, face it, they make our legs look great, we feel a little sexier and there will always be the girls that effortlessly wear them all day and into the evening with such ease. But the very nature of spring/summer finds even the Carrie Bradshaw’s among us slipping on flats.

Any season, shoe styles will consist of heels whether they’re platform, stiletto or kitten heels- the former being here to stay and the latter picking up steam after being reintroduced in fall/winter. But the major trends this spring/summer are platform wedges and flat sandals with a seventies vibe. Platform wedges were seen gracing the runways of  designers  Derek Lam, Phillip Lim, Stella McCartney, Tory Burch-to name a few. These shoes are a major trend and we love them!!

The Maxi Trend- A Little Something For Everyone.

With so many skirt lengths to choose from this Spring/Summer, deciding on one that’s best for you could make a girl’s head spin.

We think all the lengths are fantastic, but if you’re one that is not comfortable wearing the short, short minis- this is a season for you.  The maxi skirt has been resurrected and no matter what your style, there is one for you.

If you lean towards the minimalist- there are great maxi’s by The Row or LNA,  if you’re partial to the bohemian look- Blu Moon or Top Shop.  There are denim, geometric, floral maxi’s as well as the bold, vibrant colored maxi’s which Jill Sander- among others- did so brilliantly.

The point is, there is a maxi out there this spring for everyone- even for the girl who likes to flash a little leg; many versions sported side or front splits.  This Spring/Summer there is no reason for anyone to shy away from the maxi trend.
