Detroit Isn’t Known Just For Autos – Erickson Beamon’s Spring 2013 Collection

Modern Mogul earring In Multi $593.00 Pretty In Punk Collar Necklace $820.00

Erickson Beamon Glendora Cuff $450.00 Erickson Beamon Modern Moghul Bracelet $560.com www.saksfifthavenue.com

Pretty In Punk Necklace $642.00 Crystal Duchess Xhandelier earrings $44o.oo

While checking out what’s new in Elyse Walker, (Pacific Palisades, CA) Erickson Beaman’s Modern Mogul earrings in a mixture of pastels and bright colors caught my attention. The multi hued danglers would be a great addition to anyone’s spring jewelry buys – it will add a pop of color to white jeans and tee, or take a LBD from wow to WOW.

Erickson Beaman, a creative partnership between Vicki Beamon and Karen and Eric Erickson (all natives of Detroit), has been a driving force in costume jewelry design for nearly 30 years, and have been credited with creating the chandelier earring – which they  do a bang up job of.

In 1982, the trio, while working for a fashion designer’s runway show in Manhattan began creating their own custom jewelry to complement the fashion designs. The jewelry was an instant success, receiving instant recognition in the fashion world, and led to the founding  of Erickson Beamon. In 1985, Beamon moved to London to form the brand’s European division.
Not only is the Erickson Beamon line sold around the world, but they have done numerous collaborations, working with the late Alexander McQueen and fashion houses such as Donna Karan, John Galliano, Zac Posen, Givenchy to name a few. This perennially cutting edge line enjoys a vast celebrity fan base, ranging from Lady Gaga to Sienna Miller to First Lady Michelle Obama.
Make sure to check out their spring/summer 2013 jewelry collection, it’s one of my favorites of theirs – Barney’s, Net-a-Porter and Elyse Walker. While you’re at it scope out their second RTW collection of body con knit dresses and slinky, silky floor-length slip dresses in pretty pastels.

Delicious Autumn Covetables

I’ve been up in Bay area, specifically Palo Alto, this week, visiting my sister at Stanford Hospital – where I’d like to give all the nurses and doctors who have been so wonderful a huge shout out! The cooler weather and changing leaves on the trees reminds me that it is indeed autumn. One of the best things about the cooler weather is all the delicious fall clothes to bundle up in and that got me started on my list of this week’s covetables.

Once I spied Oscar de la Renta’s suede trimmed brocade ankle boots ($995.00 at Net-a-Porter), I knew they would be a boot to build a fall wardrobe around. Pair them with 3.1 Phillip Lim’s jodphur leather pants ($995.00 at La Garconne), Zara’s ribbed mohair sweater and Adrienne Landau’s merlot fox vest ($725.00 at Intermix) for a luscious, extremely cozy ensemble.

Try adding a cape for an updated, modern version of outer wear  – Rachel Zoe’s Candice Cape in army green (also comes in black) for $866.00 will carry you through this fall season and beyond in style. Lastly, Nina Ricci’s layered cuff leather gloves lend the perfect amount of edge and warmth to all of fall’s brisk days and nights.

Trend Report — It’s Okay To Feel Blue

This spring/summer it’s okay to feel a little blue – as long as you’re talking the latest spring/summer trend. This season blue is everywhere, and every shade of blue, from turquoise to baby blue to royal blue – there’s a shade that is right for you.

This fab trend is easy to wear too, it looks smashing with white and when paired with black can really make the hue pop. And, of course, the color rocks a pair of blue jeans. Another awesome way to wear blue is to combine the different shades for a color-block look!!

Mums Day — What They Really Want!!

This Mother’s Day I decided to reach out to my friends that are mums, and get the low-down straight from the source. Almost all their answers praised love, thoughtfulness and meaningful gestures over tangible items that are bought on a whim. Below are some of their answers, and a few ideas of my own, to help those who have waited to the last minute (that would be me) to purchase or make their gifts.

My biggest request every year is that it’s a THOUGHTFUL gift- something that I’ll actually like, personal to me, that means something. No random ‘stuff’!  Could be an action or homemade as well as purchased, the thought counts the most!    Cynthia Desser  www.cynthiadesser.com

If I could have ANYTHING I want for mother’s day, the first and foremost thing would be something hand made from my son.  Anything–a poem or a drawing or a card…..Something that captures him at this moment for years.  That I can put away and take out every year and remember how awesome and wonderful he is…..  Amy Amsterdam
I really want a Cartier love bracelet from my husband and son. So fits the feeling. I’m locked in with them! In a good way.  Andrea Putnam     If that price tag will break your piggy bank, opt for the Jemma Sand’s bracelets seen above (available at Chelsea Brentwood).
A big huge box of PG Tips tea.  Michelle Fiordaliso   www.michellefiordaliso.com
We added an awesome tea cup from Anthropologie — it’s great fun to mix the patterns when giving more than one.
Honestly?  I would LOVE it if my kids would spend a day helping me to get organized.  Linda
Happy kids.  Nothing else matters.  However, these happy kids better spring for a spa day.  Jane Bosackis
Burke Williams are featuring three gift card packages for Mother’s Day, ranging in price from $139.00 to $259.00.  1-866-239-6635 www.burkewilliams.com

This Week’s Wish List

For now, this week’s wish list will have to remain just that, wishes. But with a little work wishes can become reality. The first thing I am placing my energy on is the Smythe color block blazer. I love adding a pop of color via a blazer and the black lapel gives it an extra shot of versatility – I will dress it down with skinny jeans or ragged cut-off shorts, but it’s nice have to have the alternative to dress it up with wide leg trousers or a maxi skirt.

The Norma Kamali retro halterneck swimsuit is not only an awesome swimsuit that is super flattering (rouching is great for camouflaging tummy areas), it makes for a brillian halter top with a pair of high-waisted shorts or a-line skirt. Phillip Lim’s silk crepe de chine dress is another versatile piece – the blush nude color is not only amazing when paired with black but it makes for a spectacular back drop to springs vibrant hued accessories.

Happy shopping! If you have any wishes you would love to share PLEASE do!!

Celebrate Earth Day!!

Who says clothes and eco-friendly can’t be one in the same. These days you can be stylish and environmentally friendly with my curated list of earth friendly goodies. It’s easier than you think, many designers are thinking organic, fair trade and recycling, in short, about the environment.

Chinti & Parker’s striped dress and Loomstate’s apple green tee are not only on trend (vibrant colors and stripes) but they’re made from organic cotton making them uber soft and cozy. In need of an awesome baby gift? Squeaky the pig is made from organic cotton and Oeko-tex certified safe dyes which makes it super safe, and their fair trade practises support higher social and environmental standards so everybody benefits.

I love that Stella McCartney’s eco-friendly sunglasses are constructed from more than 50% natural and renewable resources, but what caught my eye was their oversized shape and fetching Asiatic print.

This Sunday celebrate Earth Day (April 22) by making your dollars count for the earth. Buy organic, buy fair trade, buy eco-friendly!

The Stripe Tee

The stripe tee is an awesome year round basic, but there is something about it that evokes spring and summer for me. Every spring I like to update my wardrobe with one (or two) more stripe tees – who knew there could be so many variations with stripes. This spring I am coveting the Enza Costa orange and blue striped tee (don’t own that color combo yet), love the splash of color it brings to white jeans. And the QSW Bay tee from Quick Silver is the perfect choice to update my basic blue and white strip tee. If you are looking for one with a bit more personality the Chinti and Parker organic black and white stripe tee with yellow pockets could be just the ticket – it’s a new take on the stripe tee.

Did you see your favorite striped tee? If not, let me know what it is.

Flower Power – Springs New Print Trend

Flower power is back! This season there is a growing passion for all things floral (prints). There was a time when the trend  conjured up images of Laura Ashley prints and little-girl smock dresses. But this season’s crop of floral prints embodies a freshness and modern sophistication.

You can wear them head to toe — the  pajama look is a great way to sport this — or give your jeans and tee a splash of color with floral printed accessories. Whether in cool pleasing pastels or vibrant spirited hue, florals are packing a punch. To get your bouquet started I’ve curated my picks of the best of the trend.

Celebrate St. Patty’s Day in Style

Wearing green this St. Patty’s Day is easier than you think. I’ve put together a selection of eight pieces that will let you celebrate St. Patty’s day pinch free (if opting for the lace bra and thongs I’ll leave it to you on how to let people know), and with this vibrant hue trending so strong you’ll be letting loose this Saturday in style. Emerald green adds a fantastic pop to any outfit and no doubt you’ll want to wear this electric hue well past the holiday.

I’ll be sporting the Zara lace blazer, it’s a simple yet striking way to add a feminine touch to mens wear inspired pants or a touch of romance to your favorite pair of jeans. If you’re still not sure about donning such a bold color try opting for the high-rise mint shorts — this soothing color still keeps you pinch free while maintaining a less boisterous profile. Anyone of these stunning finds is sure to make your friends green with envy!!
