Down under had its turn at the helm of fashion with Sydney fashion week just finishing up. Every city has a designer that it embraces and takes into its fold and Kym Ellery, since launching her label in 2007, is the designer de jour in Sydney. Kym draws on her background as a stylist by infusing her lookbooks with a magazine quality (and by launching her own Gazette) and regularly dressing celebrities. Another popular designer among Australians is Ana Maria Escobar of Oroton, which was founded in 1938, and with her discerning eye for trends she keeps the collections fashion forward yet with a classic touch.
Two of my favorite showings at Sydney this past week were the popular Australian designer Alice McCall, her designs can be found in over 165 stores in 10 countries, showing at both London and Australian Fashion weeks. In addition to McCall, An Ode To No One’s is a burgeoning Sydney label which has become known for meticulous detail, supreme quality and inventiveness. Designer Adi’s creations find the beauty in being unique, reflecting individuality and flaunting it in the process.
