Jeans and rock n’ roll are like two halves of the same coin. There’s not much that says rock n’ roll more that a fantastic pair of jeans. Except, the new amped up trend in jeans – the waxed jean. They’ve been called waterproof, shiny, waxed or lacquered and feel as if they’ve been painted on (kinda like the look of most rock star’s jeans).
Waxed jeans have actually been around for a few years, flying under the radar. And for good reason, first designed by Acne and Dior Homme, they came with a hefty price tag – an average price of $300. But this season with most jean designers honing in on the act - J Brand, Levis, Rag & Bone, Current Elliot and H & M, to name a few - the price point is varied.
These jeans, like the rock stars ego, need delicate care. The best way to wash waxed cotton/denim is simply to give it a cold rinse. Using soap or dry cleaning will remove the wax. The wax will fade after time but part of their appeal is once that happens and they are broken in, they develop a soft semi shiny finish. Kinda like how revisiting your favorite record after a few month hiatus feels new.
To get back the “shiny” sheen, the wax dressing can be re-applied. Click here for a link on DIY jean waxing.
